Energy-Saving Vending Machines

DyDo DRINCO's vending machines have a number of energy-saving features.

*1 Peak-Cut Feature

In the summer season (July to September), power consumption for cooling rises significantly, reaching a peak in the daytime when temperatures are highest. To keep power consumption down during peak hours, electricity is used at off-peak demand times to cool drinks in the machine, and cooling is stopped during peak demand hours ("peak-cut"). This feature enables a reduction in power consumption during the daytime in the summer when power supply is tight.
The peak-cut feature has been a standard feature in our vending machines since 1995. When used in our latest energy-saving vending machines with advanced insulation, it allows drinks to be served cold even after machine cooling has been stopped for eight hours.

Basic Energy-Saving Vending Machines

Our energy-saving vending machines have a feature that halts cooling during the peak hours of 1:00–4:00 p.m. from July to September.

Newest Energy-Saving Vending Machines

Our newest energy-saving vending machines with high insulation capacity have a feature that halts cooling from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. between July and September.

*2 Heat-Pump Feature

Heat-Pump Feature

We have actively incorporated heat pumps—which are used in air conditioners and hot water heaters—into our vending machines. Most of our vending machine models have both cooling and heating chambers, and heat is generated from cooling the products. In the past, this heat was vented outside the machine, but vending machines with a heat pump will reuse that heat, sending it into the heating chamber. This feature reduces power consumption, leading to fewer CO2 emissions.

We have introduced more heat-pump vending machines year by year; today they comprise nearly 100% of our vending machines.

Introduction of Heat-Pump Vending Machines

With these advanced energy-saving features, DyDo DRINCO's vending machines consume more than 75% less power than in 2000.

Eco-Friendly Vending Machines

Vending machines have an average service life of about 10 years, and the principal reason that they are taken out of service is failure of cooling and heating units. In order to extend the service life of vending machines, DyDo DRINCO both works to maintain and replace such units, which pose a bottleneck to extended operation, and recycles older machines by adding functionality that allows them to operate on par with current models. By developing “Frontier Vendors,” as we call vending machines that have been reborn in this manner, we’re working both to reduce our environmental footprint and to lower costs.

Green Power Certification System
Sticker

In 2002, DyDo DRINCO became the first company in the beverage industry to participate in the Green Power Certification System. Through this system, natural energy generation is outsourced for a cost, and in return a certificate is issued and the customer is recognized as having used green energy. DyDo DRINCO-commissioned windmills (Akita Prefecture) have continued operating since the company's initial participation in the system, and their annual power generation of approximately 1 million kWh of clean energy contributes toward conservation of fossil fuels and reduction of CO2 emissions.

Green Power Certification System

We have placed stickers on all of our vending machines in order to make more people aware of the importance of renewable energy (Green Power) for future generations.
